The hot spot in town is Giger Bar, Comercialstrasse 23 (tel. 081/253-75-06). The Oscar-winning H. R. Giger, a native of Chur and set designer on the movie Alien, was responsible for creating this 1980 bar and disco with its starship Enterprise aura. Its biggest competitor for the francs and patronage of the clientele, which ranges in age from 18 to around 60, is the Safari Beat Club, Kupfergasse 11 (tel. 079/253-13-08). Outfitted like a camp safari movie (faux-leopard skin upholsteries, references to darkest Africa), it attracts some of the most energetic dancers in town, both male and female. Admission costs 15F ($12/£6.25), which usually includes the first drink.
