Planning a Trip

Getting There -- The only real way to get here is from Salamanca. Because train service is infrequent and the railway station is a long way from the walls of the old city, it's easier to take the bus from Salamanca; you'll get off at the Ciudad Rodrigo station at Calle Campo de Toledo (tel. 92-346-10-09). There are daily buses from Salamanca (trip time: 1 hr.). The cost is 8€ one-way.

The N-620 is the main road from both Salamanca and Portugal. Driving time from Salamanca is about 1 1/4 hours.

Visitor Information -- The tourist office, Plaza Amayuelas 5 (tel. 92-346-05-61; www.ciudadrodrigo.net), is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm and 5 to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm and 5 to 8pm.

Special Events -- Carnaval festivities in February in Ciudad Rodrigo feature a running of the bulls, traditional dances, and costumes.
