The area used to produce more bananas than any other in Australia -- but these days you have to go farther north to Queensland for the huge plantations. The Nymboida River is known for its white-water rafting.

Coffs Harbour is a rather disjointed place, with an old town-center retail area; a good supermarket, the Jetty Strip (with restaurants and fishing boats) near the best swimming spot, Park Beach; and a retail area called the Plaza.
