Les Templiers Review

The most charming and atmospheric hotel in the town center maintains its headquarters about 15m (50 ft.) inland from the port, in a fin de siècle house whose ground floor is devoted to a recommended bar and restaurant. Part of the charm of the place derives from the clusters of mature local men playing cards (and, in some cases, according to the staff, "cheating") in the bar and conversing in Catalan. The hotel consists of four separate buildings, each within a short walk from one another. The most comfortable and lavishly decorated of the four is the hotel's headquarters and site of registration for the annexes, which do not employ receptionists or check-in staffs of their own. In the main building, expect at least 2,000 paintings -- so many that most of the wall surfaces are completely covered with them -- and a bar that's artfully sculpted to resemble a boat, complete with a sculpture at one end of a mermaid comforting (or seducing) a much smaller depiction of a sailor. Bedrooms in the main building have polychrome (that is, painted) Catalan-style furniture and views of the town's château and, in some cases, the sea; those in the annexes have a traditional but less-lavish decor and less-inspiring views.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
