This is the second museum in Germany devoted to the works of this major German woman artist (1867-1945), the country's most celebrated in the 20th century. The Cologne museum has more of her works than does the sibling museum in Berlin. Capturing human emotions, both tender and arresting, the Berlin-born artist focuses on such subjects as death, hunger, war, love, grief, and even happiness. In addition to the works of Kollwitz, presented in drawings, sketches, and sculpture, the museum also has special exhibitions, such as those devoted to Picasso, William Hogarth, or even contemporary artists.
