Semana Santa

Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is a huge deal in Comayagua. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, the city is flooded with tourists, pilgrims, day-trippers, and everyone else who wants to experience the most passionate religious celebration in Honduras. Processions and festivities occur every day in and around Comayagua's colonial churches and plazas. Good Friday is for many the most important day of this week; it's also when you will see alfombras, colorful sawdust carpets laid out to be trampled on during the solemn Via Crucis Procession, in which a volunteer carries a cross on his back through the streets beginning at 10:30am. If you plan on staying in the city during Semana Santa, be sure to book your hotel as much as 6 months in advance.
