Centennial Hotel Review

This 1892 brick mansion with twin turrets sits about a half-mile from downtown and was always popular with business types. But its new makeover has transformed it into a sleek, stylish boutique hotel (with rates to match). It now reminds you more of New York City than of New Hampshire. The mansion has been thoroughly modernized within; most guests enter through glass doors facing the parking lot in back, rather than the pedimented main entrance. Inside, the hotel has a dusky, masculine feel. Room sizes and configurations vary greatly, as they will in a rambling old property. Some suites offer sitting areas or reading nooks in the mansion's turrets, and some open up to private decks; all the units are done up with cherry furniture, pillow-topped beds, art prints, DVD players, flatscreen televisions, minibars, and terrycloth robes. An upscale New American restaurant, Granite, has also recently been added to the mix as well.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; small fitness center

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
