Planning a Trip

Getting There -- Highway 9 runs parallel to the river, along the west side of the valley. It connects I-91 south of Hartford to I-95 near Old Saybrook, making the valley readily accessible from all points in New England.

Visitor Information -- The state's Central Regional Tourism District (tel. 800/793-4480 or 860/244-8181; www.enjoycentralct.com) is focused on the River Valley. The website of Connecticut's Commission on Culture & Tourism (tel. 888/288-4778; www.ctvisit.com) also has a section on the region.
