Frommer's Review
About 20 minutes outside Clifden in the tiny seaside town of Cashel, this lovely, old-fashioned hotel is a virtual haven of peace. The same family has owned and run the place for years, and the matriarch of the clan is personally responsible for the magical gardens that surround the low, wide-windowed building. Rooms are large, with separate seating areas and picture windows. The king-size beds are firm, and the bathrooms modern. The floral motif is carried from the gardens through to the wallpaper and bedding, but it's all tastefully done. Dinner in the big dining room is excellent Continental cuisine, but you will pay (€48/$62 per person) for the privilege of trying it (beware if staff members offer you anything -- tea, for example -- as nothing comes free and it will all appear on your bill in the end). There's plenty to keep you busy here -- a private beach, tennis courts, fishing areas, stables with riding lessons and trekking, and signposted walking paths, but it's still a quiet, mature place for quiet, mature people.
Facilities:
Restaurant (Continental); bar; tennis court; nonsmoking rooms; library; private beach
