Active Pursuits

Boating -- Take a 1-hour, partially narrated historic tour of pretty Lake Otsego aboard the double-decker Glimmerglass Queen, 10 Fair St. (tel. 607/547-9511). Or do it yourself without the chattering by renting a canoe or kayak from Sam Smith's Boatyard, 6098 State Hwy. 80 (tel. 607/547-2543), for $10 to $25 an hour.

Golf -- If you're a duffer and you're in the area, chances are you already know about the scenic Leatherstocking Golf Course at the Otesaga, 60 Lake St. (tel. 800/348-6222 or 607/547-9931; www.otesaga.com), one of the nation's most elite resort courses. The traditional-style links, which hugs the western shore of Lake Otsego, offers many challenges, but it's the 18th tee that is most intimidating: Starting on an island, you have to hit back over the water toward the hotel. Greens fees are $89 for guests and $99 for non-guests; save almost $30 by teeing off after 3pm.
