Thousands upon thousands of budget-conscious visitors have been making their way from the railway station to the doors of this hotel ever since it opened in 1928. "We're not glamorous and we attract no movie gods or rock stars," a member of the staff told us, "but we do get budget-conscious visitors from abroad plus regular clients and their families who journey to Copenhagen from the countryside of Denmark." The hotel has kept abreast of the times, now offering free Internet access at the reception. An elevator carries visitors to all floors, one of which features superior units decorated in the style of Louis XVI (before he was beheaded, of course). Such extras in these upgraded rooms include a Bang & Olufsen TV, a minibar, and a beverage maker. In a ground-floor room, an impressive Danish buffet breakfast is laid out each morning, and hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day.
