Waidroka Bay Surf & Dive Resort Review

The easternmost of the Coral Coast resorts, this little lagoonside retreat has more in common with those at Pacific Harbour, which is much closer to here than is Korotogo. The lagoon here has no beach, so owners Boris and Karin Kaz -- a German-Israeli couple who relocated here from New York City -- specialize in diving, snorkeling, fishing, and surfing (Waidroka Bay is closer to Frigate Passage than either Pacific Harbour or Beqa Island). The guest bungalows flank their spacious, Mediterranean-style main building with a restaurant, bar, and large front porch opening to a swimming pool (with its own bar) set on a grassy lawn beside the palm-fringed lagoon. Guest quarters are either in bungalows (some have two bedrooms) or in a motel-like building. They are devoid of most island charms but all have sea views. Waidroka is 4km (2 1/2 miles) south of the Queen's Road via a dirt track that literally climbs over a mountain before descending through a development of modest vacation homes.

Facilities:
Restaurant; 2 bars; babysitting; laundry service; massage; outdoor pool

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
