The best Italian restaurant is La Mamma, at Santa Rosa and La Canada (tel. 351/421-2212), with homemade pastas, veal escalopes, and an incredible lasagna (main dishes cost $7-$10/£3.85-£5.50). La Nieta e' la Pancha, on Belgrano 783 (tel. 351/468-1290), offers typical food such as locro, humitas, and empanadas, and here you can also try the ubiquitous mate tea so loved by locals.
