For fine dining in Corning, this three-level, family-owned restaurant on Market Street is your best bet. Elegant but not stuffy, it features a sophisticated menu and very attentive service, with a pianist on Saturday evenings. Dishes are classic, like roasted rack of lamb, prime pork loin stuffed with cranberry, apple, and raisin chutney, and filet mignon finished with a Finger Lakes red-wine reduction. More casual dishes include fish and chips with peas (served every Fri) and a daily pasta. Desserts are all homemade, and the pies (pecan, deep-dish apple) are to die for. For lunch, there are plenty of fine salads and nicely prepared sandwiches. If you're in the mood for a late-afternoon snack, stop in for tea and scones or soup and salad from 3 to 5pm.
