Getting There
By Train -- The closest train station to Cortina is the one at Calalzo di Cadore, 30km (19 miles) south. From Calalzo, 30 daily buses connect with Cortina. There are 10 trains a day to Calalzo from Venice, but only two are direct (2 1/2 hr; with connections, allow 3-4 hr.). There are also six daily direct runs from Padua (3 hr.).
By Bus -- Frequent STI bus service provides the only public transportation in and out of Cortina (tel. 800-846-047 in Italy; www.sii.bz.it). There are two daily buses each from Bolzano (about 4 hr.), stopping in Bressanone (about 2 3/4 hr.), that head to Cortina, but with a change in Dobbiaco. There is also one daily bus to and from Venice (tel. 035-237-641; 4 1/2 hr.) and a daily bus to and from Milan (tel. 02-801-161; 6 1/2 hr.). The bus station in Cortina is located in the former train station on Via Marconi.
By Car -- The spectacularly scenic Grande Strada delle Dolomiti links Bolzano and Cortina, while S51 heads south toward Venice, connecting south of Belluno to Autostrada A27, for a total trip time of about 3 hours between Cortina and Venice.
Visitor Information
The APT tourist office, Piazetta San Francesco 8 (tel. 0436-3231; fax 0436-3235; www.cortina.dolomiti.com or www.dolomiti.com), is open daily 9am to 12:30pm and 4 to 7pm. In addition to a list of accommodations, the English-speaking staff will provide a wealth of information on ski slopes, hiking trails, and bus schedules.
