Big River Restaurant

Housed in a renovated warehouselike space across the street from the Willamette River, this big, lively place serves a mix of Italian dishes and creative Northwest offerings. The brick-oven pizzas and calzones are popular with college students, while such dishes as roasted halibut with a potato blini and white-truffle oil are hits with patrons who have more money and more sophisticated palates. There are always a few creative vegetarian dishes as well. The restaurant uses lots of fresh local produce (often organic), local wines, Oregon-caught seafood (when possible), and organic meats. Though Big River is a big place, you probably won't be able to miss the case full of tempting desserts. Be forewarned that this restaurant is very noisy.
