Overlooking a lake in the sweet village of Killaloe, the Cherry Tree has raked in awards over the years, and with good reason. The menu, which uses plenty of local ingredients, is simple yet sophisticated, wisely giving space for those local flavors to come to the fore. A starter of scallops from West Cork could lead on to John Dory filet served with roasted pepper and baby spinach, or a rack of Wicklow lamb. The early bird menu, served from 6pm to 9pm from Tuesday to Thursday, and from 6pm to 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, is great value at €26 for 3 courses. Booking is advisable.
