This extraordinary resort is both the newest and one of the oldest places to stay in the Cranbrook area. The resort hotel, along with a noted golf course, spa, casino, and First Nations cultural center, is on the grounds of a former residential school built for the education and acculturation of the local Kootenay Indian band in the late 19th century. The original mission school structure was renovated and now houses a number of unique guest accommodations; a brand-new adjacent lodge also features rooms and suites. The mission's historic barn is now the golf clubhouse and, in 2004, a health club was added. With financial backing from the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Tribal Council and the federal government, the transformation of the old mission has been accomplished with great attention to historic detail. Rooms are simply but elegantly appointed, and the views are magnificent, with miles of open links and pine forest and the Rockies rising to fill the sky.
