Located on the shores of Diamond Lake 5 miles from the park's north entrance, this resort has long been a popular family vacation spot, and with Mounts Thielsen and Bailey flanking the lake, it's one of the most picturesque settings in the Oregon Cascades. The variety of accommodations provides plenty of choices, but our favorites are the lakefront cabins, which are large enough for a family or two couples, with great views of the lake and mountains. If you want to do your own cooking, you'll find kitchenettes in both the cabins and the studios. Lodge guests and campers can dine at the resort's dining room, cafe, and pizza parlor--all family-type places with standard American menus and moderate prices. Boat, mountain-bike, and horse rentals are available, and there's a small sandy beach and a bumper-boat area. In winter the resort is most popular with snowmobilers but also attracts a few cross-country skiers.
