The 485-slip Somers Cove Marina, 715 Broadway (tel. 410/968-0925), is one of the largest marinas in Maryland. It's able to accommodate both sailboat and motor yachts from 10 to 150 feet. Facilities include boat ramps, showers, laundry room, pool, boat storage, electricity, water, and fuel dock.
Fishing trips leave from the marina and the town dock each day for flounder, trout, spot, drum, blues, and rock. To book a headboat or charter, walk along the waterfront and talk with the captains, or call any of the following: Capt. Keith Ward (tel. 410/968-0074; www.crisfield.com/prim), Capt. Charlie Corio (tel. 410/957-2151), or Capt. Larry Laird (tel. 410/968-2545). Charters cost $65 to $100 per person.
Janes Island State Park, 26280 Alfred Lawson Dr. (tel. 410/968-1565; www.dnr.maryland.gov), gives nature lovers 2,900 acres of wilderness for hiking, camping, canoeing, and boating. Located on the edge of Tangier Sound, Janes Island has sandy beaches, 25 boat slips, and a canoe/boat trail, the only way to see the island portion of the park. In warm weather, the park rents canoes and kayaks. There are 104 campsites, 49 with electricity, and three backcountry sites; they go for $25 to $85 a night. Most are closed in winter, but four waterfront cabins can be rented year-round.
