Visitor Information

The home Web page of the Republic of Croatia (www.hr/index.en.shtml) offers potential visitors numerous links to the country's attractions. The Croatian National Tourist Board website, www.croatia.hr, contributes specifics about trip planning, with a focus on transportation and accommodations. In addition, each region, city, and most towns have their own websites.

The Croatian National Tourist Board has a U.S. office at 350 Fifth Ave., Suite 4003, New York, NY 10118 (tel. 212/279-8672); and a U.K. office at 2 Lanchesters, 162-164 Fulham Palace Rd., London W6 9ER (tel. 020/8563-7979).

Dubrovnik's tourist office (www.tzdubrovnik.hr) is located at Ante Starcevica 7, tel. 020/427-591. Zagreb maintains several tourist offices. The most centrally located (www.zagreb-touristinfo.hr) is at Trg Jelacaca 11, tel. 01/48-14-051. Istria maintains an extensive tourism network with links to individual towns' pages. Go to www.istra.hr for info and connections to the town sites. The website for Adriatica (www.adriatica.net) not only gives information on places and events, but also has links to hotels, restaurants, sports agencies, boat and car rental agencies, and tour companies.

The Croatian National Tourist Board, www.croatia.hr can supply a free, decent tourist road map published by HAK (Hvratski Auto Klub), but for more detailed maps, go to Amazon.com where you can get Michelin's "Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia And Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Yugoslava. Republic Of Macedonia" for about $10. Rand-McNally also stocks Croatia maps in its nearly 3 dozen stores across the U.S. Check www.randmcnally.com for the store nearest you. Tip: Algoritam bookstores and every large supermarket in Croatia sell fine region-specific maps for about $6 each and tourist offices in almost every city and town provide free city-specific maps.
