A Side Trip to Las Lajas

Las Lajas is popular for its long, 10km (6-mile) stretch of tan-sand beach. The current here is not strong, so swimming conditions are better than at many other Pacific Coast beaches. The beach is 70km (44 miles) east of David, along a potholed but paved road from the Interamericana Highway. Along the beach you'll find cabins, thatched bohio picnic sites, and a couple of cheap restaurants -- but it's all a bit weather-beaten and half-open unless it is a summer weekend. Las Lajas is best done as a day-trip from Panama City or the Valle de Anton. Most hotels in El Valle de Anton can arrange tours or provide guidance for day trips to Las Lajas.

To get to Las Lajas beach, head east from David on the Interamericana Highway and turn at the signed road at Las Cruces. Continue for 13km (8 miles), passing through the village Las Lajas, until you reach the beach. The cabins are to the right, but the road peters out and you need to drive across a stretch of sand.
