Frommer's Review
Not far from Lodi Gardens and Humayun's Tomb, and practically next door to Khan Market, this hotel -- operating since 1945 -- has an old-fashioned edge, with plenty of wood paneling and understated luxury. The bright lobby is usually incense-scented, providing a fragrant welcome when you return from sightseeing. It's not particularly elegant, and you might find standard guest rooms small and cluttered, but you'll be pleased with the old-world ambience and good value. Our recommendation is to book a superior guest room (only $25/£13 extra), where French doors open onto private balconies (not that there's all that much to see). The bathrooms are large and enjoy natural light. Also a pretty good value are the suite-size executive rooms, where a sliding door divides the bedroom from the comfortably furnished sitting room; sadly, the original Victorian fireplaces are now used for potted plants. Buffet breakfasts are taken in the bright, laid-back Yellow Brick Road coffee shop, which has an outdoor section that can be lovely in the morning (get there ahead of the crowds); nearby is the newly added pool. Less opulent and grandiose than some of the other upmarket hotels in town, this is a comfortable alternative with less formal but pleasant service.
