Most services, such as the post office, tourist office, and banks, are in the village of Delphi (pop. 2,500), on the main street. Like many streets in Greece, Delphi's main street has several names (King Paul and Queen Frederika, or Karamanlis), but directions are given by landmarks, not street names. The tourist office (tel. 22650/82-311; www.visitdelphi.gr), in the town hall, is usually open Monday through Friday from 8am to 2:30pm, and sometimes reopens from 6 to 8pm in summer, although staff may be of minimal help. (In 2010, staff assured me that the site, which was closed, was open.) The website, on the other hand, has useful information on outdoors activities (hiking, swimming) in the area. The museum and ancient site (signposted) are about 1km (1/2 mile) out of town, on the Arachova Road. If you want an English-speaking taxi driver for a tour of the area, or an English-speaking guide for your visit to the site and museum, inquire at your hotel or at the tourist office. Delphi native Georgia Hasiotis (tel. 69449/43-511; hasioti1@otenet.gr) will try to tailor her tour to your special interests.
