Getting There

By Bus or Dolmus -- Demre lies on the road that passes by the Gulf of Finike on its way around the coastline from Antalya. Minibuses and dolmuses connect with Demre from Fethiye (3 hr.; 15YTL/$13/£6), Kas (40 min.; 3YTL/$2.60/£1.20), and Finike (20-30 min.; 3YTL/$2.60£1.20) several times a day. There's also a daily connection to Üçagiz, if you're headed to or from Kekova Island. Daily bus service is frequent in summer months, allowing for the spontaneity of simply showing up at the dolmus stand (usually in the town center) when you're ready to go.

Orientation

The Church of St. Nicholas lies smack dab in the middle of the pedestrian mall on Müze Caddesi. A turnoff onto Alakent Caddesi before the church leads to the entrance to Myra, about a mile and a half away.

Çayagzi Beach and the ancient harbor port of Andriake lie about 4km (2 1/2 miles) to the west of the center.

Getting Around

Although the necropolis of ancient Myra is only a little over a mile from the main square and easily walkable, the unrelenting heat will surely slow you down to the point where a meaningful exploration of the small site will be impossible. Do yourself a favor and take a taxi.

Dolmuses do exist from the main square out to the beach, although you might melt while waiting for one to pass by.
