Introduction to Derbyshire

The most magnificent scenery in the Midlands is found in Derbyshire, between Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire. Some travelers avoid this part of the country because it's ringed by the industrial sprawl of Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Derby. But missing this area is a pity, for Derbyshire has actually been less defaced by industry than its neighbors.

The north of the county, with Peak District National Park, contains waterfalls, hills, moors, green valleys, and dales. In the south, the land is more level, with pastoral meadows. Dovedale, Chee Dale, and Millers Dale are worth a detour.
