The Columbine ReviewHere is Buxton's most charming restaurant, serving the town's best food. It's reasonably priced but still rivals some of the more formal and expensive country-house hotels outside the center of town. Set behind a facade of gray Derbyshire stone, it was built during the Victorian age as a private home and retains some of its oldest vestiges within an atmospheric cellar. The place is especially popular during the town's annual music festivals; it sometimes prepares pre- and post-theater suppers. Menu items are straightforward and unpretentious, but fresh and flavorful, served in a bistro-style setting. Some of the best items on the menu are likely to include baked saddle of monkfish with a fresh crab risotto, or filet of wild sea bass with stir-fried noodles.
