Frommer's Review
Located 6.5km (4 miles) east of Bakewell, the Cavendish is one of the most stately country hotels of England. The stone-sided building was constructed in the 1780s as the Peacock Inn; it is located on the duke of Devonshire's private estate.
The duke and duchess took personal charge of the hotel and its lavish restoration in 1975, furnishing its public areas and more expensive bedrooms with antiques from nearby Chatsworth, a 15-minute walk to the south. The hotel remains aristocratic and charming. Beds are sumptuous with elegant fabrics, and each room includes a well-designed bathroom with deluxe toiletries and a tub/shower combination.
