Review of Air Mobility Command Museum (Dover Air Force Base)The name of this museum, located in a restored World War II hangar listed on the National Register of Historic Places, doesn't do it justice. The collection of vintage aircraft and artifacts here reflect the history of Dover Air Force Base since the early days of World War II and through the Berlin airlift and remind us of the brave men who flew and serviced these craft. Not only will you see the museum's first plane, a C-47A used in the 1944 D-day paratroop drop over Normandy, you may have a chance to walk inside it. Several of the historic planes are open every day. Cargo planes, air refueling planes, and jets that broke the sound barrier are here, along with a flight simulator, open whenever a volunteer is available, which gives visitors 10 and over a chance to "fly." | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
