Frommer's Review
Set within a few steps of Schloss Pillnitz (Pillnitz Castle), about 8km (5 miles) east of downtown Dresden, this historic building functioned as a restaurant as early as 1760, often feeding the courtiers and service personnel doing business with the castle. In 1999, the Zepp family poured time and money into its restoration. Today, the upper floors are devoted to clean, well-maintained, discreetly tasteful guest rooms, each with big windows, well-crafted furniture, comfortable beds, and tiled bathrooms with tub and shower. The lower floors contain a cafe, a reception hall, and a high-ceilinged restaurant with excellent food. Main courses at lunch include sauerbraten, wursts, salads, soups, and steaks. Dinners are more elaborate and sophisticated. Specialties change regularly, but may include roasted pike with sautéed cabbage in Riesling sauce; filet of veal with goose liver, stuffed leeks, and duck-meat gnocchi; or filet of lamb served with a red-onion and olive charlotte. Consider eating a meal here even if you're not a guest, as the restaurant's old German atmosphere makes a nice counterpoint to modern Dresden.
