Frommer's Review
This manor house, built in 1880 as the seat of a family that has owned the surrounding 1,215 hectares (3,000 acres) for the past 500 years, is now the area's most elegant hotel. The owners still live on the estate and derive part of their income from organizing hunting and fishing expeditions in the nearby moors and forests and on the River Allan. Fishing in three private lakes and hunting is available, as is tennis, and you can walk through the forests and farmland. It's also a popular spot for weddings.
The manor has an elegant drawing room with big bow windows, and antiques are scattered about both the public and guest rooms. Bouquets of fresh flowers and open fires in cool weather add to the overall charm and comfort of the place. The individually decorated guest rooms (including eight suites with sitting rooms) are carpeted, and most have Queen Anne furnishings.
