This grand venue -- the only part that remains of the original Royal Hotel -- is one of the most romantic in Durban, and the perfect place for a candle-lit dinner. Plush velvet banquette seating, high ceilings with chandeliers, antique dressers, and stained-glass skylights create a luxurious ambience, with old-style service in a class of its own. The menu is more contemporary than the setting, including the likes of a wild mushroom ravioli topped with poached egg and hollandaise sauce, or pot roast lamb shank on a Parmesan and poppy-seed risotto.
