This is the best leisure hotel in the Durban environs, with a great beachside location, and cool, breezy public spaces, but -- despite a much needed refurb -- the bland, standard-issue decor in the rooms leaves a lot to be desired. That said, it is home to one of the city's best restaurants (The Sugar Club is a member of Chaine de Rotisseurs and Moet et Chandon Restaurant Circle), has good facilities, and offers great sea views from every room and public area, and personal touches like your own lounger on the beach -- one of the few hotels on the entire coastline to offer this obvious service. Gateway, the best shopping center in Durban, is within walking distance.
