Fast Facts

Banks -- There is a 24-hour ATM at Banco Estado across the street from Sernatur on Tu'u Maheke (tel. 32/276-5500). However, the machine only accepts Cirrus network cards (like MasterCard); Visa/Plus cardholders need to have a bank representative run their card through the bank system in order to receive cash. Better yet, bring enough cash for your trip. Bank hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 1pm.

Emergencies -- For a police emergency, call tel. 133. For fire, call tel. 132. To call an ambulance, dial tel. 131.

Hospital -- The Hospital Hanga Roa (tel. 32/210-0183) has basic medical services, but more serious cases need to be treated back on the mainland.

Internet Access -- Most hotels have an Internet station and even Wi-Fi. Or try Isl@net next to the plaza, open daily from 9:30am to 10pm (Sat-Sun open at 10am). Rapu Call (tel. 32/255-1600) has a call center and Internet services.

Laundry -- Most hotels will do your washing for you at a fairly reasonable price. Or try Lavandería Tea Nui, at Avenida Atamu Tekena s/n and open Monday though Saturday from 10am to 1:30pm and 4 to 8pm.

Pharmacies -- Farmacias Cruz Verde (tel. 32/255-1540) is at Atamu Tekena s/n and open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 1pm and 4:30 to 8pm.

Post Office -- The post office is on Avenida Te Pito o Te Henua s/n (across from the Hotel O'tai) and is open weekdays from 9am to 1pm and 2:30 to 6pm.

Telephone -- The country code for Chile is 56, and the city code for Hanga Roa is 32. Note that all phone numbers are now prefixed with a 2 for a seven-digit phone number, but many published numbers still do not reflect this (for example, 32/005555 is now 32/200-5555).
