The Café Royal has been here for some 140 years and the many splendorous Victorian touches remain intact. The main menu offers more than just oysters: salmon, langoustines, and lobsters -- as well as beef and rabbit -- can be featured. The restaurant closes after lunch and reopens for dinner, but the ground-level Circle Bar is open throughout the day. The menu there is more limited but also less pricey. A highlight of the bar is the collection of tile pictures of notable inventors. Upstairs, a second drinking hole, the Bistro Bar, has an ornate ceiling although a less classy atmosphere.
