Standing proud amid 5.3 hectares (13 acres) of private parkland and gardens, about 5km (3 miles) south of Edinburgh's city center, 17th-century Prestonfield House is the elegant home for this posh, almost theatrical, restaurant which first opened in 2003. Another venture from the owner of the Witchery by the Castle, Rhubarb shares its sense of drama and flair. And some might indeed find its plush, tassel-laden furniture just a bit over the top. The menu is a bit fancy as well.
