Frommer's Review
With Victorian turrets, Flemish gables, and severe gray stonework, this baronial pile (a former department store) rises from the east side of North Bridge, between the Royal Mile and the cavernous gap that separates Old Town from New Town. The Paramount group owners invested substantially to upgrade this hotel. Some bedrooms were removed to make units larger and more comfortable with private bathrooms with a tub and shower. Furnishings are tasteful with a subdued modern simplicity. In spite of its overhaul, some complaints of inadequate soundproofing for rooms facing the busy street have been made. Light sleepers should request rooms at the rear.
