Frommer's Review
Behind a chiseled sandstone facade on the slopes of Calton Hill, this four-story Georgian (designed by William Playfair), retains such features as high ceilings, cove moldings, and elaborate trim. Guests access their rooms via a winding staircase, illuminated by a skylight. The rooms have shower-only bathrooms. The Firth of Forth and the dramatic Forth bridges are just about seen from the uppermost front rooms; a sloping tiered garden, with a patio at the bottom, is visible from the rear units. Breakfast is served in a formal dining room.
