Frommer's Review
Edmonton's beloved Eskies, as they're known, are perhaps the most successful CFL franchise of all time. With 13 Grey Cup victories as of 2007, they've established themselves as the second of the twin pillars of Edmonton's self-anointment as the "city of champions." The CFL game -- Canada's top pro football league -- has subtle differences to the one played in the National Football League, such as a larger field and only three downs vs. four. But aficionados argue that the extra room and need to take to the air more often only serve to make the game more exciting. Some players who flourished in the NFL were CFL stars first, and the Eskimos boasted a marquee quarterback in Warren Moon, who starred here, piling up championships before becoming an NFL impact player in Houston and Minnesota. The Eskimos play at Commonwealth Stadium, a 60,000-seat outdoor stadium just a dozen or so blocks north of downtown. While popular, games rarely sell out and are always reasonably priced. It's not a bad way to spend a sunny summer evening.
