Planning a trip to Egypt is more difficult than planning your average overseas vacation, because sources of accurate information are scarce. The government only runs a handful of websites and many of them are out of date; prices to major attractions often change without notice due to high inflation and whimsical taxation, and train and bus schedules can be unreliable. To minimize confusion, consider hiring a local tour guide who can help you navigate the chaos and make your stay run smoothly.
That said, the government's Egyptian Tourist Authority can help answer some basic questions as you prepare for your trip. Its website at www.egypttourism.org offers simple directories of travel agents and hotels, but double-check everything on there since much of the information is out of date. Better yet, give them a call.
