Set on an open space with good views of the peaks surrounding El Valle, this hotel has both budget accommodations and spacious "family" suites, as well as manicured gardens and a friendly atmosphere. The German who runs Los Capitanes was once a sea captain himself, hence the name. There are three stucco buildings. One building is divided into polygon rooms that are differently sized and decorated; some buildings are kid-friendly with bunks and cubby-hole type rooms; one building has a loftlike, second-floor sleeping area perfect for kids. Rooms on the second floor have balconies. All rooms here are clean but modest. Around the property are seating areas with outdoor tables, and they have one of the best (and most popular) restaurants in town. Note that the owner has begun organizing fun, full-day mule rides for guests, which no other hotel offers.
