Planning a Trip

Getting There

After passing through the final tollbooth, Hwy. 1-D curves sharply toward downtown Ensenada. Watch out for brutal metal speed bumps slowing traffic into town -- they're far less forgiving on the average chassis than those in the U.S.

Visitor Information

The Tourist and Convention Bureau booth (tel. 800/310-9687 in the U.S., or 646/178-8588 or 178-8578) is at the western entrance to town, where the waterfront-hugging Bulevar Lázaro Cárdenas -- also known as Bulevar Costero -- curves away to the right. The office is open daily from 9am till dusk and can provide a downtown map, directions to major nearby sites, and information on special events throughout the city. As in most of the commonly visited areas of Baja, one or more employees speak English fluently. Taxis park along the bustling López Mateos, or Avenida Primera (First Ave.).

Fast Facts

The city's Convention and Tourism Bureau (tel. 646/178-2411) will answer any question or concern. Two accessible hospitals in Ensenada are the Clinica Hospital ISSSTE, on the corner of Boulevard Sangines and Pedro Loyola (tel. 646/176-5276), and the Hospital General de Zona IV No. 8, on Avenida Reforma and Fraccionamiento Bihia (tel. 646/172-4500). The main post office is on Avenida Lopez Mateos at Calle Floresta. Most hotels in Ensenada have wireless Internet, but if you want a coffee fix while you surf the Web check out Equinoxio Internet Café (tel. 646/174-0455) on Bulevar Lazaro Cardenes #267. Their English-speaking staff can help with printing, faxing, and many other business services.
