Frommer's Review
This 200-year-old classic Souiri residence was formerly owned by a wealthy trader dealing in exotic fabrics and spices. Thanks to Anglo-Moroccan couple Alison and Jandal, it's now a captivating combination of a traditional Moroccan dar and an English country cottage. The Teahouse's two floors of apartments are outfitted in soft hues of sage, turmeric, rose, and mauve, and filled (by Alison) with a quirky assortment of Moroccan antique furnishings. Each floor, or apartment, has two en suite bedrooms, a kitchen, and sitting room complete with fireplace, which is much needed in the winter. Each apartment can sleep four, and will accommodate an additional small child if need be. Solo travelers and couples are given the same exclusivity of each apartment, and are only charged per person. The whole house can also be rented. Alison's personal touches include lavender-scented linens, a personal orientation tour, and a candle-lit roof terrace for romantic sunsets. She's also very knowledgeable about Morocco's traditional artisan history, and is one half of the highly recommended Craft Treasures of Morocco tour (www.styles-morocco.com) mentioned in chapter 2. Guests can choose to be totally self-sufficient (breakfast is included in the cost and delivered fresh each morning), or can join Alison's housekeeper for a visit to the fresh produce souks and enjoy an impromptu cooking lesson. The Teahouse isn't for everyone, but it's definitely peaceful, homely, and attracts a slightly alternative, artsy guest.
