Frommer's Review
Located at the end of a small lane close to the medina's Bab Marrakech, this quiet and intimate riad is the creation of multilingual French couple Rosko and Mari Becquet, who fell under Essaouira's spell during the Gnaoua Music Festival in 2000. The house's original Portuguese columns stand in a yellow and white courtyard with a central fountain. The narrow yet spacious rooms are located on multiple levels and are mainly split level, with a ground-floor lounge and separate bathroom, and two open bedrooms located on steep mezzanines, accommodating up to five people (better for families with teenagers rather than tots). There are, however, two single-level rooms on the ground floor that also offer wheelchair access. A delightfully cozy salon is furnished with numerous Gnaoua musical instruments and a small library, while throughout the house are paintings, objets de art, and souvenirs from Rosko's and Mari's North African travels. Breakfast is served from the small kitchen on the rooftop terrace, where guests are encouraged to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy the ocean views.
