Frommer's Review
Perched above town on the north shoulder of Prospect Mountain, Crags Lodge has a friendly, comfy warmth to it that's removed from the bustle of downtown Estes Park -- but only by a few hundred feet. On the National Register of Historic Places, the lodge opened in 1914 as an alternative to the Stanley Hotel, and it is one of the area's standout lodgings today. While the lobby and public areas retain a woodsy elegance, the guest studios and suites are more modern than historic, as several original rooms now make large suite. The decor keeps the Western trappings to a minimum, aside from a few historic photos, instead opting for an upscale condominium feel. All of the rooms have kitchenettes, queen beds, and sitting areas with a hide-a-bed; a few have balconies. The activities list is long and varied, and self-guided tour pamphlets are provided to guests free of charge. The resident restaurant, The View is excellent.
