Taharaa Mountain Lodge ReviewA luxurious mountain lodge, Taharaa is named for the French Polynesian word for "beautiful view," and it's a fitting moniker: There are jaw-dropping views of the Mummy Range from just about every room in the house. Built in 1997 and expanded in 2005 by Diane and Ken Harlan, Taharaa melds upscale hotel amenities and service with the intimacy of a B&B. With a contemporary, "New West" feel, the sumptuous interiors are a good match with the sublime panoramas, with individually decorated rooms like the Big Thompson, outfitted with trout art of all kinds, and the two-room Cattle Baron Suite, with an imposing antique headboard and a wet bar. All rooms have gas fireplaces and private balconies. The property has a guest library with Internet access and a phenomenal Great Room, with a 30-foot ceiling and fireplace, a wrought-iron chandelier, and picture windows framing the stunning view. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
