Frommer's Review
Just a 2-minute walk from the rail station, this hotel offers far more tradition and style than the sometimes better rated and more recently built Southgate at Southernhay East, or the Thistle on Queen Street. It dates from 1769 and escaped the Nazi Blitz. Just a step away from the cathedral, it offers individually furnished rooms in categories classified as comfortable, desirable, enviable, and fabulous. Five rooms are large enough for families; some rooms have four-poster beds.
A great two-star Michelin chef (Michael Caines) and a top-notch hotelier of south England (Andrew Brownsword) have joined in partnership to run this hotel. A chic little nook, The Moët et Chandon Champagne & Cocktail Bar, has been added.
Facilities:
Restaurant; cafe; 2 bars; gym; spa; room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility
