A handsome view of the river and colorful art are the only distractions from the superb baked goods and other delicious fare served up with charm and cheer at the cafeteria-style Loaf and Ladle. It's sometimes hard to get a grasp on the ever-evolving menu, which is constantly updated on chalkboards as the day goes on. As one soup is drained by appreciative diners (six are usually offered at any given time), another follows on its heels. Soups come with a hefty slab of home-baked bread; among other baked goods, the cinnamon buns are especially fine. Everything is made from scratch, and vegetarian entrees are available. The restaurant has been a mainstay for 3 decades now, making it clear this place has been doing something very well.
