Frommer's Review
A handsome view of the river and colorful art are the only distractions from the superb baked goods and other delicious fare served up with charm and cheer at the cafeteria-style Loaf and Ladle. It's sometimes hard to get a grasp on the ever-evolving menu, which is constantly updated on chalkboards as the day progresses. As one soup is drained by appreciative diners (several are usually offered at any given time), another follows on its heels; bowls come with hefty slabs of home-baked bread. Among the other baked goods, the cinnamon buns are especially fine. Everything is made from scratch, and vegetarian entrees are also available. This place has been a town mainstay for more than 3 decades, so it's doing something right.
