Pike's Waterfront Lodge

When Pike's appeared on the Chena River next to the Pike's Landing restaurant , it initially looked like a big rectangle the size and shape of innumerable chain hotels along Interstates, but the local owner kept adding features until it became utterly unique, including a greenhouse, an ice cream parlor with an airplane sticking out of it, solar electric panels, an extraordinary wildlife art collection, and 28 cabins. Rooms, while not large, are well equipped, and many look out on the river. The location is a stone's throw from the airport. The place fills on certain days in the summer with package tour guests -- at this writing, Monday through Wednesday -- but usually has room the rest of the week. Summer only, a steak-and-seafood restaurant operates on-site.
