Planning a Trip

Getting There -- From New York and points south, take I-95 or, preferably, the Hutchinson and Merritt parkways. From eastern Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, take I-84 south to Danbury, then Route 7 south into Fairfield County.

The Metro North (tel. 800/METRO-INFO or 212/532-4900; www.mta.nyc.ny.us/mnr) commuter line has many trains daily from New York's Grand Central Terminal, with stops at Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport, and additional stations all the way to New Haven. Express trains make the trip in 45 to 65 minutes.

Visitor Information -- Information on the northern part of the county is available at www.litchfieldhills.com, while the Coastal Fairfield County Convention and Visitor Bureau (tel. 800/866-7925; www.coastalCT.com) can provide materials on the coastal towns.
